I'm not dead yet

Hi folks, I felt a bit under the weather this past weekend when I usually write This Week in Florida. This is unfortunate, given it was another consequential week in the Sunshine State. I should be back next week, though I’ll probably be publishing on Monday, given Sunday is a holiday for many.

I had already intended to add more humor, especially political cartoons (catnip to many historians), so above is one from last week talking about DeSantis’s second consecutive loss to Disney over the property Disney World operates. Property DeSantis vowed to attack because Disney said: “gay.” I think it worth noting some people who typically are very chatty with the press are staying quiet on this issue for fear of retaliation from Florida’s authoritarian governor.

Alt Text to Feature image has to be short so here it is: A political cartoon depicting Ron DeSantis as the world's oldest toddler, holding a bat with a nail through it, confronted by a giant Micky Mouse standing behind a sign that says "You must be THIS TALL to oversee authoritarian government takeover." Song lyrics "It's a small man after all" hang over the scene.
