That's me at last year's Nehemiah Assembly. Obviously, I didn't take this photo. LOL. I think it's courtesy of Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ 2025.

I've mentioned People Acting for Community Together (PACT) many times. It is a place where I find hope and community with people from all faiths. I've decided to promote their biggest event of the year here in the hopes that you will join me on Monday at this. Here's an "ad" I cut for congregations to share, I'm sharing it with you now.

Here's what PACT released to the press about the event:

PACT Nehemiah Action to Advance Solutions on Affordable Housing and Homelessness

Miami, FL – April 13, 2026 – People Acting for Community Together (PACT) will host its annual Nehemiah Action on Monday, April 13 at 7:00 PM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, bringing together hundreds of residents, faith leaders, City of Miami and Miami-Dade County officials to secure commitments on urgent community issues, including affordable housing and mental health.

Confirmed and invited Miami-Dade County officials expected to be in attendance include Daniella Levine Cava, Vicki Lopez, Nathan Kogan, Raquel Regalado, and Oliver G. Gilbert III and City of Miami Commissioner Ralph Rosado.

This year’s Nehemiah Action will focus on advancing three concrete solutions aimed at addressing the root causes of housing instability and breaking cycles of homelessness and incarceration:

• Opening the Center for Mental Health & Recovery to help end the cycle of homelessness and jail by providing coordinated behavioral health services and support

• Amending the County Code to define Area Median Income (AMI) by census tract and defining “workforce housing” as housing for individuals and families earning below 100% of AMI

• Creating a sliding scale of developer incentives based on levels of affordability tied to census tract income levels, ensuring deeper affordability where it is needed most

The Nehemiah Action is PACT’s largest annual gathering and the largest gathering of its kind in Miami-Dade County. The Nehemiah Assembly is a cornerstone of its grassroots organizing strategy, where community members directly engage elected officials and request clear, public commitments.

“During our listening sessions with our 40 congregations we heard story after story about how rent is putting too much pressure on people’s daily lives. PACT is going to do something about this.” –Rev. Sherlain Stevens, Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Miami and PACT President

Local officials will be asked to commit publicly to PACT’s proposals during the event.
